Super excited to enter the blogging world and I have to give a shout out to my sister over at Southern Home and Designs for all the encouragement and tons of help with this new journey! My first post is actually part of my inspiration for starting this blog. I honestly had no idea how many questions I would get regarding the console table my husband built a few months ago, and after I discovered it had been repinned on pinterest over 100K times I knew I wanted to share a little more about it!
I found several different designs on the web that I liked, but only wanted a top and bottom shelf and slatted boards on the bottom so my sweet husband came up with this design! We used the Ana White Diy Rustic X Console plans as a starting point, but then made a few changes! I do not have exact plans but hopefully these pics along with Ana’s plans above will be a great way to start if you are interested! We used yellow pine wood and Minwax classic gray stain which I sanded down after 1 light coat because I thought it was a little too gray! My husband applied the coat of stain using an old rag and we wiped it off pretty quick so we did not get too dark of a stain. We used the Kreg Jig listed below for all of the console table except the slatted boards at the bottom which a nail gun was used for that. The dimensions of our console table is 66″ long x 16 1/4″ wide x 30″ high. We made the biggest possible table that would fit in our front entry way. Be sure and check my daily deals section for decor ideas or below for almost all of my decorations I used in this space. To see my console table decorated for Halloween, click here. Please message me with any additional questions you may have, and I will try my best to answer them!
Also, if you decide to build this table, please email me or tag me in a pic using #homedecormomma on Instagram or Facebook because I would love to share! If you have no desire to build a table I have rounded up some of my favorite console tables you can purchase here!

Is that glass carboy an actual working lamp?
homedecormomma says
So sorry for the confusion! The carboy is just a decoration and the lamp on my table is actually from Target! A carboy lamp would be pretty amazing though!!! Thanks for stopping by!

Love this so much that my husband and I made one this week.! Just a quick question though. I bought the same stain you said was used but when I went to do the first coat last night I love this color stain but the pine comes through very yellow in the grain. I have been doing some reading and found this is a problem with staining pine wood a lighter color. Did you precondition your wood at all or treat it in any way before staining?
homedecormomma says
That’s so weird! We did not have that problem at all! We did not treat the wood or precondition. My husband applied one coat of stain using a rag and then I sanded it down and that was it! Would love to see a pic!
Sharla says
Did you sand the table at all before staining?
homedecormomma says
Oh yes!! We sanded the table before and after staining!

What size are the slates? 1×4’s?
How did he secure slates?
Is it flushed in the back on the top or does it how aany overhang against the wall?
homedecormomma says
Yes 1x4s. He used finish nails with a nail gun and it is flush in the back. Thanks so much!! Let me know if you have any other questions!
