It has finally started to cool down here in Texas and by cool down I’m talking about high 80’s but I am loving the cooler mornings and evenings! It has definitely gotten me in the mood for pumpkins, football and fall decor. I had so much fun decorating my home for fall these past few weeks, and I am so happy to finally share it with you! One of my favorite areas to decorate in my home is my dining space probably because I love to cook and eat….or it might just be because the toddler stays out of this room!! Since I am new to the blogging world, I tried to think about what I enjoy reading when I visit other people’s pages. Of course I love seeing lots of pictures, but also I like to know where I can purchase decor from and love to see a step by step guide to whatever I am reading about! So here goes! I actually decorated my entire table, took pics, and then went back to square one and started again making sure I didn’t leave out any details!
My entire home is very neutral so I wanted to continue this look going into the fall season! Since my World Market Saurav dining room furniture that I’ve had for years is pretty dark, I wanted to definitely lighten things up with incorporating white as much as possible and layering a tablescape in my opinion is the key to creating a beautiful table! I started with a simple linen and cotton pure white table runner I purchased from Amazon and layered it with my Pottery Barn nubby table runner. I get asked about this table runner quite a bit, and it is actually on sale right now at a really great price. I also have a similar burlap runner that was much cheaper that I used in my 1st attempt and honestly really love the look of both! Both of these table runners are 108″ in length.
Next I added my absolute favorite plates I purchased from Costco last year that look almost identical to dishes you would find at Pottery Barn. I bought two 16 piece sets for $39.99 a piece and went back to purchase one more and they were gone! I find the best deals at Costco and it has become one of favorite places to find great decor as well!
I layered the smaller plates on top of the larger ones and I also used my water hyacinth round placemats to add a bit of texture, layering and to offset the white dishes and table runner! I use these for dining and for decor all over my house! Really great quality!
Next up was adding napkins and greenery! I used a set of white and tan napkins I purchased from Home Goods but really any neutral colored napkins would work great! As far as greenery, there are so many possibilities, so I will show you a few that I played around with! In the first picture, I used my small fern wreaths from Magnolia, but since I only own two of these, I had to get a little creative! I used some succulent picks I already had in the middle picture. In the last picture, I just went out back and clipped some pieces off of my star jasmine vines! You could also use fresh herbs or really any kind of greenery you may have around your home! Fresh magnolia leaves would look beautiful too!
Next I added my centerpiece and went with one of my favorite purchases from Decor Steals which is their large blue-tinted glass demijohn bottle which measures 10” Diameter x 17” High with a 3″ diameter at the opening in case you are looking for a similar size bottle. I grouped 3 olive stem branches for the centerpiece and also used two more branches on top of the table runners to add a little bit more color. The two larger pumpkins I decided to use are not identical but both very neutral and full of texture! The larger white one was purchased this year from Home Goods and the vine twig pumpkin was purchased a few years ago in an after the season sale. One of my favorite things to do is shop after holiday sales at some of my favorite stores! I placed these on either side of the demijohn bottle.
Now for the fun part! I definitely went shopping around my house for the fall decor to add to my table. I like to keep things simple and easy and not spend a ton of money on decor that is only out for a short time of the year. I actually prefer real pumpkins but have still been unable to find the boo pumpkins, so I picked up the small ceramic white pumpkins in the target dollar spot! I seriously find the best decor in this area of Target! I had planned on chalk painting these but still have not gotten around to it just yet! Maybe next year! Ha!
I also purchased 2 small ceramic white pumpkins with lids from TJ Maxx for $3.99 a piece last month so I included those as well! I decided I needed a little more height to the table so I pulled out my natural drift wood pieces and placed those between the white pumpkins. I went to my living room built ins and grabbed the ivory candles that are usually on candlesticks and placed those on the wood slabs. I also have a set of votive candles that I purchased for my sugar mold that are just perfect when you need something easy, cheap, and beautiful for a tablescape! I just love the soft glow that candles add to any tablescape or social gathering!
Now for the finishing touches! I knew I wanted to incorporate pumpkins again for the final touch of the place settings! I had picked up 2 of the terra-cotta pumpkins last week on sale for my fall mantel and knew these would be perfect. I also had a smaller white pumpkin that was similar in size and a small vine pumpkin I already had from a few years ago. I love that everything does not have to be identical to create a beautiful table setting!
Last but definitely not least are the glasses!! Any Olivia Pope fans out there!?!? I fell in love with these glasses after binge watching the 1st few seasons of Scandal and when I heard Crate & Barrel carried them, I knew I just had to have a few! I love the tall stem and the large bowl of these gorgeous wine glasses and think they add just a little something extra! Of course for the kiddos, I have our clear mason jars!
Now for some finishing touches! I knew I wanted to incorporate chalkboards somewhere in my tablescape so I placed these mini chalkboards with jute hanging from the pumpkins! These came with a set of glass jars from Michaels but you could easily make your own with some wood tags, chalkboard paint and jute or here is an inexpensive set of 12 mini chalkboards. I love a personalized table setting so I wrote names on mine but you could also incorporate a few fall sayings such as “blessed”, “thankful”, “grateful”, “gather” or “give thanks.”
Here is a pic of it all finished! I have this burlap Gather Banner I purchased on Etsy hanging on my hutch behind my dining room table and love how it ties everything together!
I printed this 8×10 Give Thanks free printable from the Shanty-2-Chic Ladies and threw it in a barnwood frame and placed it in the middle of my table because most of you know I have a thing for signs!! And that about wraps up my fresh fall tablescape! Very simple and neutral!
